Tove Graulund Graulund Consulting Copenhagen, Denmark INTA Bulletins—Europe Subcommittee
When she was nine years old, Laura Collada (Dumont, Mexico) knew that she wanted to become a lawyer. She later narrowed her focus to intellectual property (IP) after an internship at the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), where years later she became a sub-director.
Ms. Collada has worked in IP for more than 30 years. As managing partner at Dumont in Mexico City, she recently initiated the complete digitization of the firm’s system—something that turned out to be particularly handy when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020. While her responsibilities as managing partner take up much of her time, she is still very involved in representing clients and setting strategies to defend their interests.
An INTA member since 2004, Ms. Collada has attended Association events since her first Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas, USA, in 1985. She is currently a member of the Famous and Well-Known Marks Committee.
Geographical indications (GIs) are one of her favorite IP topics. Ms. Collada views GIs as reflecting diverse regional approaches and full of intricate legal challenges. They also protect the traditions of small to large groups, on products ranging from luxury goods to unique quality products of indigenous people, she said. Her favorite GI is Tequila!
Ms. Collada appreciates trademarks belonging to luxury brands, especially LOUIS VUITTON. She loves the company’s stores, products, and museum, as well as its story.
Ms. Collada is family-oriented and enjoys having her nieces stay with her. She is fond of cooking and loves her dogs—a Welsh Corgi and two Pomeranians. When she really takes time off, she goes to one of Mexico’s beautiful beaches, relaxes on a deck chair and enjoys the sun and swimming in the sea. She loves traveling and visiting ancient sites.
