Noemi Parrotta of Florence, Italy, Wins the International Trademark Association’s Advancement of Association Objectives Award

Published: November 12, 2024

New Orleans, Louisiana—November 12, 2024—The International Trademark Association (INTA) has honored Noemi Parrotta, Partner at Spheriens in Italy, as a recipient of the 2024 Advancement of Association Objectives Award.

The Advancement of Association Objectives Award is presented to one or more individuals of a member organization whose participation, efforts, and innovative thinking during the year have advanced: (a) substantive trademark and related IP law and practice; (b) committee or subcommittee objectives; or (c) the objectives of INTA’s 2022–2025 Strategic Plan.

As Chair of the International Amicus Committee—Europe Subcommittee, Ms. Parrotta has enthusiastically led her team to submit numerous interventions before EU Courts and before EUIPO’s Grand Board of Appeals, strengthening the Association’s reputation as a “friend of the court” in Europe. Her ability to identify possible new cases for intervention, her holistic approach and ability to mediate between different positions amplifies INTA’s voice and influence within the EU’s judicial system.

“Unlike the United States, Europe does not have a strong tradition of amicus curiae interventions, lacking also a clear and harmonized set of rules in this respect,” said Ms. Parrotta. “But the impressive number of cases our subcommittee has managed to intervene in, along with the increasing interest in what we do from various sides of the IP community, clearly show a turnaround. This award is a recognition of the great work that our subcommittee has done over the past few years.”

“Amicus briefs are a vital component of INTA’s advocacy efforts and an effective tool in shaping IP case law,” said INTA President Dana Northcott. “Through her expert leadership and unwavering motivation, Ms. Parrotta has greatly elevated INTA’s reputation among EU courts.”

This year’s INTA awards were presented today during an awards ceremony at the Association’s 2024 Leadership Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. INTA also recognized Kimberly Eberwine (The Procter & Gamble Company, USA) and Christian Bolduc (Smart & Biggar, Canada) as joint winners of the Advancement of Association Objectives Award.
