According to some estimates, more than half the world’s voting population in more than 70 jurisdictions globally will participate in national elections in 2024.

INTA is drafting reports covering select elections during this election cycle. These Election Reports—an exclusive INTA Member benefit—offer a detailed overview of the political shifts and their potential influence on intellectual property (IP) policy and explore how these shifts may affect INTA member organizations. These Reports also examine the evolving dynamics in trade, security, and sustainability.

The India Election Report 2024 examines India’s political landscape, economic growth, and IP policies under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Since 2014, India has experienced a period of political stability under the leadership of the BJP, which helped drive major reforms, digitization, and economic growth initiatives. But the 2024 general elections marked a pivotal shift, with the BJP falling short of a majority despite securing an unprecedented third consecutive term—signaling a more complex political environment.

Key election issues, including economic inequality and unemployment, will likely shape the government’s policy moving forward.

The Report also highlights INTA’s role in advocating for stronger IP laws and enforcement in India. The Association’s ongoing collaboration with the government aims to enhance India’s innovation ecosystem and IP rights protections, supporting India’s goal to become a global manufacturing hub and attract foreign investments.
