New Canaan Attorney Receives Prestigious President’s Award from International Trademark Association

New York, New York— November 27, 2018—The International Trademark Association (INTA) is pleased to announce Kathryn Barrett Park, a prominent intellectual property (IP) attorney who resides in New Canaan, CT, as the recipient of the Association’s 2018 President’s Award.
INTA presents the prestigious award annually to the most distinguished INTA volunteer for a career dedicated to trademarks and IP protection and advancement, and contributions that have advanced INTA’s mission and made a lasting impact on the Association.
Ms. Barrett Park recently retired from the General Electric Company where she was General Counsel for Marketing for more than 17 years.
A 30-year member of INTA, who has served on numerous committees and task forces, Ms. Barrett Park joined the Board of Directors in 1997 and served as INTA President in 2003. For the past decade, she was Chair of the Association’s Political Action Committee, helping to engage U.S. legislators in issues of importance to INTA members and the trademark field.
“I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude to Ms. Barrett Park for truly exemplifying dedication to trademark law and serving as an exceptional role model to countless professionals. With unbridled passion, dedication, and knowledge, she has had a profound influence on the Association and on U.S trademark policy,” said INTA President Tish Berard.
In receiving the award, Ms. Barrett Park said, “This is the greatest honor of my career and one I never dreamed I would share with the leaders who I have admired so much who were its prior recipients. It has been gratifying to meet so many INTA members and volunteers and to work together as part of a bigger collective. Thank you to my dear friends and esteemed colleagues for bestowing this honor on me.”
Ms. Barrett Park has had a distinguished career in trademark law. She was a member of the Trademark Public Advisory Committee for the United States Patent and Trademark Office for two, three-year terms, and served as Vice Chair in her second term. Prior to joining General Electric, Ms. Barrett Park was Vice President and Senior IP Counsel at the National Basketball Association. She earned a J.D. from Columbia Law School in New York and her undergraduate degree from Brown University in Providence, RI.
INTA presented the award to Ms. Barrett Park during the Association’s 2018 Leadership Meeting in New Orleans, LA in November.
