New York Attorney Receives International Trademark Association’s Membership Champion Award
Published: November 18, 2020
New York, New York―November 18, 2020―The International Trademark Association (INTA) is pleased to announce Peter Sloane, Partner and Chair of the Trademark and Copyright Practice Group at Leason Ellis LLP, White Plains, New York, as the recipient of the 2020 INTA Membership Champion Award.
The global association of brand owners and trademark professionals bestows this award—one of several INTA Service Awards—to an individual or individuals who help grow INTA membership, increase awareness of the Association, and promote member benefits, demonstrating their combined passion for trademark and related intellectual property (IP) law and their commitment to INTA through exceptional efforts.
Mr. Sloane, chair of INTA’s Law Firm Committee, has supported the Committee’s creativity in thinking outside the box to develop educational programming that would attract new audiences—both members and non-members of the Association. Recent efforts include an ongoing series featuring mental health and wellness, especially relevant given the COVID-19 pandemic.
A member of various INTA committees for nearly two decades, Mr. Sloane has focused much attention on helping to groom the Association for the future. During the past year, he contributed to INTA’s IP Law Firm of the Future Think Tank project, which looks at the future of IP practices for law firms and, ultimately, the Association. He co-edited the IP Law Firms of the Future Think Tank Report and provided feedback on its content.
“Being an active member of INTA for over two decades has provided me with an invaluable network of trusted colleagues and friends around the world,” Mr. Sloane said. “I am honored to win the INTA Membership Champion Award, which is also a welcome recognition of the efforts of my colleagues on the Law Firm Committee and the IP Law Firm of the Future Think Tank.”
Most recently, he has also championed INTA in other ways. When the Association transitioned from an in-person Annual Meeting to a virtual Annual Meeting & Leadership Meeting this year, Mr. Sloane understood the importance of supporting the first-ever virtual Meeting. He responded by registering six representatives from Leason Ellis LLP—making it one of the first organizations to sign up multiple registrants—as well as encouraging fellow members of the Law Firm Committee to attend.
“In what has been a challenging year for everyone, Mr. Sloane has not only continued his dedication to the Association, but he has also doubled down,” said INTA President Ayala Deutsch. “He has brought forth new ideas for collaboration and innovation and made tremendous strides to help strengthen the INTA community. His willingness to go above and beyond is truly a special asset for the Association.”
Ms. Deutsch presented Mr. Sloane with the award in a video announcement on November 18 during the 2020 Annual Meeting & Leadership Meeting. Throughout the Meeting this week, the Association also has been announcing recipients of other INTA Service Awards and the President’s Award. Earlier, INTA revealed the winners of the Tomorrow’s Leader Award.
