New Quick Reference Guide to INTA’s Resources
Published: May 3, 2023

The Publications Committee has created the new Quick Reference Guide to INTA’s Resources, covering some of the most popular resources on the INTA website. The Reference Guide—which members can find on the orange banner at the very top of the Resources page of the website—gathers a list of resources all in one place, with links to directly access them.
With 500+ INTA member contributors, the online tools are both written and vetted by expert practitioners from around the globe. Many of these members say the greatest reward of contributing to the Resources is being able to give back to the INTA community, a community that has given them so much and helped them at every stage of their careers.
Some of the most popular INTA Resources are the Practice Guides. With practical, on-the-ground information covering trademark and complementary areas of law throughout the world, they are a daily go-to resource for many members. In the Practice Guides, member contributors provide answers to a wide range of common questions about the key practices and procedures in each jurisdiction. Plus, members can easily compare responses across multiple jurisdictions. Leading the way is Country Guides, where readers will find essential information on areas of local practice and procedures, including trademark filing, prosecution, registration, maintenance, oppositions/cancellations, and assignments/licensing. The Practice Guides family also includes Trademark Cancellations, Trademark Enforcement, Guide to GIs and Certification & Collective Marks, Madrid System, Trademark Opposition, and Trade Dress. The new Anticounterfeiting Guide is in the works, too!
The Quick-Start Trademark Chart is another great starting point for research. It contains quick answers to 19 of the most frequently asked trademark questions and provides a link to the Practice Guides, where more in-depth information can be found. Members can also print out or download mini charts with the responses for just one question or jurisdiction.
Trademark Administration is INTA’s classic online training aid, providing a thorough introduction to trademark practice and procedure―whether for administrators or young or early-career practitioners. It offers step-by-step guidance through core chapters and is complemented by checklists, practice tips, and illustrations of documents and forms. It covers the role and function of trademarks, selection and clearance, registration, maintenance, business transactions, litigation, international practice, ethics, and other key topics. This resource is especially helpful for firms welcoming an incoming class of associates or a new trademark administrator or paralegal.
Need quick information on a trademark or related topic? Check out INTA’s Fact Sheets, covering such topics as selecting and registering a trademark, protecting a trademark, maintaining a registration, domain names and the Internet, and more. Members can even share relevant Fact Sheets with clients in response to their queries.
The Trademark Reporter (TMR), INTA’s law journal, is compelling, thought-provoking reading, and it is cited in amicus briefs and by courts—including, in recent years, the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, the first two issues of each year are annual case law reviews, one for the United States and one for Europe.
All INTA members and employees of member firms have access to all the INTA Resources described here—those developed by the Publications Committee and many more—at no additional charge. Members can access these resources by logging into the INTA website with their username and password.
