Dubai Annual Meeting to Move from 2026 to 2029
Published: June 11, 2024
New York, New York—June 11, 2024—The International Trademark Association (INTA) has decided to reschedule the Annual Meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), originally scheduled for 2026, to 2029.
Choosing a host city for an event of the size and scope of the INTA Annual Meeting is a multi-year-long and logistically complex process. The Association also follows a rotation strategy to host the Annual Meeting in a location outside the United States every third year.
Moving the Dubai Annual Meeting from 2026 to 2029 will ensure that INTA can take full advantage of the many benefits of hosting the global IP community’s premier gathering in Dubai and can make it as successful as possible.
Dubai is an excellent location for an INTA Annual Meeting. It has become a regional center for banking, trade, and tourism. Also a regional travel hub, with direct flights from points around the world, the city is strongly focused on boosting tourism and approximately 85 percent of its population are expats. In 2022 alone, the Dubai World Trade Centre—where the Annual Meeting will take place—hosted close to two million visitors at more than 240 conferences and events. Among these visitors were 37,000+ exhibiting companies, of which 72 percent were international. As such, Dubai is a welcoming city accustomed to hosting visitors from around the world. It is home to a wide variety of hotel options, and English is widely spoken. The city also boasts abundant cuisine and tourist activities.
Dubai has become a center for innovation as well as an intellectual property (IP) hub. It is also home to many INTA corporate members and as well as very active INTA associate members. Over time the Association has fostered a strong and productive relationship with the country’s IP community and government. INTA is also exploring opportunities to enhance its presence in the region in the build up to 2029, including hosting a conference in Dubai prior to the Annual Meeting.
“INTA remains committed to Dubai and is working closely with our partners in Dubai in planning the 2029 Annual Meeting,” said INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo. “It is one of the world’s most dynamic and fast evolving cities. As INTA CEO, I am very excited to bring our community together in Dubai in 2029 for what I am sure will be an incredible Annual Meeting.”
The Association will announce the location of the 2026 Annual Meeting next May during the 2025 Annual Meeting Opening Ceremonies in San Diego, California.
